Convert Strings to Binary

I'm playing on a server that uses an older version of CC, so I don't have access to the ender modem. I want to convert strings/letters into binary that can be sent using wireless redstone mods, but I'm unsure of how to do so. I'm a novice when it comes to lua so help would be much appreciated!
