I don't know what I'm doing to be honest and need some guidence for a good place to start but idk if I need to add anything to the minecraft files or not

If you're looking for a way to start tinkering with ComputerCraft, there are several Lua programming tutorials with ComputerCraft available, and you can refer to lua.org for the programming language manual (Specifically 5.2) and check out tweaked.cc for the documentation for APIs that are built-in to CC, such as a Redstone API as well.
